Control Defensive Tactics Master Instructor

Welcome to the 2021 Master Instructor Program!

To the Stakeholders: As a Chief Law Enforcement Executive, you should expect that your commitment to the Master Instructor program will enrich your connection between the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission, Basic Law Enforcement Academy, and regional partners as it pertains to the integration of control and defensive tactics and field application. 

The Master instructor Program should serve the stakeholders as a regional resource.

Each Master Instructor is a subject matter expert in:

  • Violence De-Escalation
  • Use of Force applications
  • Control and Defensive Tactics training

 

Here are the new and current requirements of the Master Instructor Program

Submit an endorsement letter from the Chief LE executive of the agency

And

Complete steps to become a certified master instructor (hosted by regional partners and sites)

 

Here is the new path:

               80 hours Instructor Course

                              200 hours of Guided instruction to their Region

               80 Lead Instructor Course

                              200 hours of Guided instruction to their Region

               40 hours of Master Instructor Training (hosted in Burien only)

                              200 hours of Guided instructor to their Region

               40 hours of annual recertification, statewide collaboration and regional report-out

                              (Participate in one quarterly 2 hour online workshop)

The Instructor and Lead Instructor courses can be taught by local MI’s.

Master Instructor Class is taught by CJTC cadre and MI’s from across the state.

To register for the course, contact your Training Manager to assign the training to you via our Learning Management System (LMS).

Upcoming classes are listed below.  Registration does not guarantee acceptance into the class.  Selections will be completed four weeks prior to the class; those accepted into the class will receive a notification at that time.

If classes are full, or not available, please complete the Course Interest Survey.  This is not a waiting list, but instead helps us see if there is enough interest to create another class.  If we schedule a session, we will contact everyone who has completed the survey and request that registration be completed.
