Juvenile Corrections Personnel Academy - Probation
This 80 hour academy is held in conjunction with JCPA - Detention. Participants from the detention and probation fields will attend the first week together to increase networking between the two services. For week two, the groups will separate to attend different training.
JCPA Probation is for personnel working with juveniles whose primary job function is the case management of offenders, including assessment, case planning, counseling, supervision, and monitoring Detention officers. The course will include, but not limited to, the following topics:
- Current trends in juvenile justice
- Overview of the WA Model for Juvenile Justice
- Behavioral health and resiliency for adolescents
- Understanding diverse communities: Cultural competence
- Gender specific issues
- Personal safety: Defense and escape techniques
- Legal aspect of force
- Case Management Assessment Process (week two)
The Legislature has continued the mandated 25% cost share for the Juvenile Corrections Personnel Academy. Agencies will be billed post the first day of class and payment is expected prior to graduation.

Who can attend our classes?JCPA Probation is for personnel working with juveniles whose primary job function is the case management of offenders, including assessment, case planning, counseling, supervision, and monitoring.
Visitors attending training at the WSCJTC are encouraged to wear their agency logo shirt/uniform or agency ID badge while on campus.
Visitors not wearing agency identification can attend classes in business casual attire. They will need check in at the front desk and wear a clip-on visitor's identification card.
The JCPA must be completed all full time corrections employees of a city/county of the state of Washington that fall under WAC 139-10-210.
Mandated agencies: City, County, State Universities, Dept. of Fish & Wildlife, and Railroad
Non mandated agencies: Tribal Police, Gambling Commission, Liquor & Cannabis Board, WA State Parks & Recreation, Arson Investigators, DNR and Reserves.
JCPA classes are typically held 0800 to 1700 Monday through Friday.
The number of JCPA classes held per year will vary each year depending on legislative decisions and funding. The schedules below outline all classes approved for the specified fiscal year.

CancellationAgency's wishing to cancel an applicant must notify the registrar via phone or email.
To register an applicant for JCPA, the forms below must be completed and submitted together. Partial applications will not be accepted, and will not serve as a placeholder for a class.
Applicants will be placed into the next available slot on a first come, first serve basis. It is in the agency's best interest to submit a complete application packet upon hire.
Completed application packets must be emailed to the registrar at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Course information will be emailed to training officers on selection day for each academy. Training officers are responsible for ensuring their applicants receive the information.
