Developing and Managing a Field Training Program
This course is hosted by the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.
This course provides attendees with an understanding of the background, goals, values and overall importance of a Field Training Program in Law Enforcement and Corrections agencies. The curriculum has been developed to assist agencies develop and manage a strong Field Training Program. Often, Field Training Officers are sent to a class to certify as an FTO. When they arrive back at the agency, they are told how to complete training by supervisors who are not formally trained on how the Field Training Program should be managed. This can cause frustration for Field Training Officers and the benefits of the Field Training Program are not recognized. This can also create potential liability issues in agencies, with failure to train, failure to supervise, and negligent hiring.
