WSCJTC Regional Expansion: Governor Inslee Press Conference

State and local law enforcement leaders joined Gov. Jay Inslee Thursday to announce a proposed expansion of WSCJTC. Regional campuses will help agencies respond to a national officer shortage and would facilitate recruitment of officers more representative of their home communities. Read more at the link below.

Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement (ABLE) Project

The Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission has been accepted into the Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement (ABLE) Project, Georgetown University Law Center’s national training and support initiative for U.S. law enforcement agencies committed to building a culture of peer intervention that prevents harm. WSCJTC Duty to Intervene Model Policy

The purpose of this policy is to establish clear guidelines, provisions, and actions for any on-duty peace officer to intervene in the event there is knowledge and/or witnessed excessive use of force or wrongdoing committed by another peace officer. See full policy at the link below. 

WSCJTC Canine Model Policy

The purpose of this policy is to set best practices for canine handlers in Washington state pursuant to Chapter 320, Laws of 2021 (ESHB 1054). Making our communities safer, reducing violence, and preserving lives must be at the forefront of all law enforcement work, including the use of police canines.

WSCJTC Certification Legislative Mandates

During the 2021 Legislative Session, Engrossed Second Substitute Senate Bill 5051 (E2SSB 5051) was enacted by the Legislature and signed into law on May 18.

WSCJTC staff will work diligently to provide updated and relevant information to stakeholders on the website. This includes, but is not limited to, policy and procedure updates, information regarding RCW 43.101, canine model policy workgroup information (ESHB 1054), a certification database, and a new complaint process.

Monica Alexander Appointed as Executive Director of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission

On June 30, 2021, Monica Alexander was appointed unanimously by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission today after a nationwide search.  Alexander will now be tasked with training the new generation of “guardians of democracy.”
