Basic Law Enforcement Equivalency Academy

As specified in WAC 139-05-210, a law enforcement agency hiring a lateral officer is required to complete the equivalency certification process. This includes the successful completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Equivalency Academy (BLEEA). BLEEA meets the requirements of the Law Enforcement Training and Community Safety Act, including instruction Washington State law, model use of force policies, and best practices in patrol tactics and community-oriented policing.

The Basic Law Enforcement Equivalency Academy diploma (also referred to as a certificate of completion) is equivalent to the diploma awarded to graduates of the full 720-hour Corrections Officers Academy.
