Chief for a Day

Chief for a Day is a statewide celebration that brings together law enforcement agencies, community partners, and families to honor children living with chronic or life-threatening illnesses. Children from across Washington are sworn in as honorary chiefs and sheriffs, complete with custom uniforms, a motorcade escort, and hands-on experiences with first responders.

This event transforms the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission campus into a festival of service, featuring demonstrations, vehicles, K-9 teams, and interactive stations designed to spark wonder and confidence.

Supported entirely through community donations, Chief for a Day highlights the heart of public service—lifting your people up who inspire courage, resilience, and unity across the state.

For departments interested in joining this event, please email cjtccfad@cjtc.wa.gov.

Currently, the event is funded through agency participation and community partnerships; we gladly accept public donations. To donate, please visit our Chief for a Day Fund Drive.
