CIT - Crisis Intervention Team 8hr - Corrections In-Service

This 8 hour Corrections Crisis Intervention Training (CCIT) course is designed to inform, educate and/or reiterate the best practices for dealing with detainees that may go through a crisis while in custody.  The intent of this course is to understand, recognize, and discuss the techniques and skills needed for dealing with detainees and subjects in mental health crisis.  Communication and de-escalation techniques will be presented for positive and favorable outcomes.

Who can attend our classes?

Class is available to corrections personnel with priority given to agencies in King County.

Reimbursement

Reimbursement is available for this class. 

Dress Code

Visitors attending training at the WSCJTC are encouraged to wear their agency logo shirt/uniform or agency ID badge while on campus. 

Visitors not wearing agency identification can attend classes in business casual attire.  They will need to check in at the front desk and wear a clip-on visitor's identification card.

Regulation

There is no current requirement for CIT for corrections.  Facilities, institutions, jails, etc., are welcome to contract with WSCJTC for training. If agencies choose to do so, they will be responsible for instructor costs for an 8-hour course of $2500 for the day.  This fee includes the two instructors and if the training site is over 50 miles from the instructor’s location, there will be additional travel costs at the state Per Diem Rates.

Benefits to agencies wishing to host:

  • Instructors come to you,
  • No travel incurred for students to attend
  • No room rental fees.

Agencies are not eligible to request overtime/backfill reimbursement for their correctional personnel if outside of King County.

Classes are typically held 0800 - 1700, unless otherwise noted. Locations vary by session.

 

Registration

Contact your training unit or Training Manager to register you in the Acadis Portal.

If classes are full, or not available, please complete the Course Interest Survey.  This is not a waiting list, but instead helps us see if there is enough interest to create another class.  If we schedule a session, we will contact everyone who has completed the survey and request that registration be completed.

Cancellation

Deadline to cancel is 7 days prior to class.  Send an email to cit@cjtc.wa.gov to cancel your registration.
