Notes from the Executive's Desk

September Edition

This September is a month of milestones at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission. I have the privilege of watching our recruits complete their journeys through the academy and step into their roles as guardians of democracy, ready to serve communities across Washington.

We’re celebrating three graduations this month: BLEA Class 918 in Spokane, BLEA Class 919 in Burien, and COA Class 500 in Burien. Each ceremony is more than a marker of completion—it’s a testament to the hard work, resilience, and commitment of the recruits who now carry the responsibility of public trust. I am inspired by their dedication and grateful to the instructors, staff, and families who supported them along the way.

In addition to graduations, we continue to advance our pursuit of IADLEST accreditation at the Vancouver Regional Academy. Accreditation is not just a benchmark; it is a demonstration of our commitment to transparency, accountability, and training excellence at every level. It sends a clear message that Washington is leading the way in preparing officers who serve with professionalism and empathy.

As we look ahead, I am excited about the momentum building at WSCJTC. From innovative training pilots—like Virtual Reality at our Northwest Regional Campus—to national recognition of community programs such as Chief for a Day, we are proving that Washington is not just meeting the moment, but shaping the future of criminal justice training.

Thank you for standing with us in this mission. Your support and partnership make all the difference as we continue to prepare the next generation of public safety leaders.
