CIT - Crisis Intervention Team 40hr - King County

This program is funded by the Mental Illness and Drug Dependency (MIDD) 2 Initiative PRI-08: Crisis Intervention Training – First Responders for King County Sheriff, Police, Jail Staff, Fire/EMS, and Other First Responders. In collaboration with the King County Sheriff’s Office and King County Behavioral Health and Recovery Division.

This 40-hour class is designed to educate law enforcement officers in King County on issues related to becoming a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) officer.

The course will cover the legal aspects of mental health commitments; liability issues; mental disorders; indicators of mental illness; understanding mental illness; documentation; the interpersonal relations necessary to effectively work with the mentally ill, their families, and the mental health system; and intervention strategies for dealing with both low and high risk situations.

Students will participate in role-playing scenarios during this class.

Who can attend our classes?

King County Sheriff, Police, Jail Staff, and Other First Responders in King County are eligible for this course. If space available, it will open to agencies statewide.

Dress Code

Visitors attending training at the WSCJTC are encouraged to wear their agency logo shirt/uniform or agency ID badge while on campus. 

Visitors not wearing agency identification can attend classes in business casual attire.  They will need to check in at the front desk and wear a clip-on visitor's identification card.

Regulation

Crisis Intervention Training is required by all full-time Washington peace officers.  Please review CIT training requirementsWAC 139-09, and RCW 43.101.427 for more details.

Schedule

Hours are typically 0800 - 1700 Monday through Friday, unless otherwise noted.

Cancellation

Deadline to cancel is 7 days prior to class.  Send an email to cit@cjtc.wa.gov to cancel your registration.

$50 no show or late cancellation fee.
