Crisis Intervention/Negotiation with Troubled Youth, Classroom Avengers, and in a Corrections Environment

This course is hosted by the Puyallup Police Department.

The law enforcement response to youth in crisis demands specialized techniques. This presentation addresses the phases of adolescent social development, unique teen stressors, suicide trends in the United States, as well as skills for intervention. Responding to the Classroom Avenger takes a hard look at the school rampage shooter, behavioral indicators and as well as specific techniques for intervention. The final presentation of the day addresses crisis intervention/negotiation within the corrections environment. Any jurisdiction with detention or correctional operations will benefit from this in-depth look at inmate crises including suicide. This presentation addresses issues pre-crisis indicators, tips for mitigating the crisis and specific techniques for intervention.
